SAP GUI Handling for Beginners

$
0
0

When it comes to SAP GUI Net weaver Handling, There are some points that a beginner should be knowing for a better understanding and handling of the GUI:

  • Here is the way your SAP GUI will look like initially when the you start it.

SAP Logon.png

  • Now, we will discuss how, we can import all the connections/configurations of the systems in the SAP Logon so that you can logon to any required system of your choice.

To do this, we need "ini" files which are already having all the server/system configurations available or required. We need to copy these ini files to a particular path. To know this path, we can go to settings of the net weaver and check the path of the configuration files as shown below:

Go to options-->SAP Logon Options-->Local Configuration Files.

settings.png

config.png

The above image shows the path of the local configuration files. Copy this path and paste in the address bar of your computer, there you can paste your INI files and restart the Net weaver Logon pad. You can see all the system connections as shown in the first image.

Now you can logon to any landscape system to do the monitoring, check reports and many more.

  • If you want to change the language of the SAP logon, then you can go to options-->sap logon options-->general and you can chose any other language you like.

  • If you have configuration information of any system, then you may create a new connection.

new conection.png

Just enter the details of the configuration of any server in the SAP Logon as shown below. Remember i could be a application server/Group conneaction depending upon the requirement of the conneaction (that will be specified in the configuration details like application server string, system ID etc.

new.png

Click on next and finish. After that a connection will be created Just double click and login to use the system.

Please share and mark it as helpful if you find it good and helpful. Will be coming back with the GUI issues, which are general but cause issues while handling the GUI and BEX Analyzer.

Thank You..!!

Mac OS X environment variables and SAP GUI for Java

Problem with SAP GUI for Java

Few days ago I came across an issue, that I couldn't open MS Office files via SAP GUI for Java for Mac OS X. This behavior I caught in SCASE and SCASEPS transactions, but maybe it also applies to other transactions (although I wasn't successful to get the same error in SBWP speaking of attachments).

So, returning to SCASE and SCASEPS transactions - when I tried to open MS Word file, attached to Case, I received error message (SBDV 071) "No temporary directory available for temporary storage".

Firstly, I thought that the trouble is in SAP GUI Preferences for Applications, where Download and Upload directories are defined. But any changes is these settings did no effect to the problem. Seems, that this setting has no impact on my issue.

So, secondly, I started debugging source code to get the place, where I receive message mentioned above (SBDV 071). I found that the problem was in results of CL_GUI_FRONTEND_SERVICES=>CL_GUI_FRONTEND_SERVICES. It tried to get the value for parameter TEMP and it returned "space". Looking through SAP manuals (Link), I discovered, that requested by system variable would receive "space" value only if Operating System didn't have such variable.

My third step was to look through MAC OS X 10.11 environment variables. To do it one needs to start terminal and use "env" command to list defined variables.

I found that there was no TEMP variable, although there was TMPDIR variable, which is the same, as it seems to me. After discovery I decided to add TEMP variable to my Mac OS X configuration and see the results. To skip few details I need to say that the results were positive - I was able to open MS Word document from SAP as it was downloaded in background to specified folder and opened by MS Word for Mac without any additions clicks from me.

How To Set Environment Variables in Mac OS X

As many people are using different versions of Mac OS X, I'm writing down information for 10.6 - 10.11 versions.

OS X 10.6, 10.7

To set an environment variable, enter the following command:

  • defaults write ~/.MacOSX/environment variable "value"

To find out which environment variables have been set, enter the following command:

  • defaults read ~/.MacOSX/environment

OS X 10.8, 10.9, 10.10

To set an environment variable, enter the following command:

  • launchctl setenv variable "value"

To find out if an environment variable is set, use the following command:

  • launchctl getenv variable

To clear an environment variable, use the following command:

  • launchctl unsetenv variable

SAP GUI History not getting saved

Issue:

SAP GUI History (backspace) for fields is not getting saved.

Pre-Requisites:

  • - Close all your SAP sessions including your SAP logon pad

10-27-2015 9-35-29 AM.jpg

Resolution/Procedure:

  • Go to Windows Start > All Programs > SAP Front End > SAP GUI Configuration (1)
  • In your GUI Configuration options click on ‘Local Data’ folder (2) and then ‘History’ (3)
  • Change history status to ‘OFF’ (4) and click on ‘Apply’ (7)
  • Click on history status back to ‘ON’ (5) and click on ‘Apply’ (7)
  • Click ‘Clear History’ (6) button and finally click ‘OK ’ (8) to close this window

10-27-2015 9-39-26 AM.jpg

Now this should take care of the history not getting saved. Reopen SAP GUI and try it out!

Special Thanks to my friend Amritpal Flora

Hi all,

SAP GUI for Java 7.40 rev 7 is now available for download.

Enhancements and New Features

  • SAP UI Landscape:
    • The landscape converter now also supports exporting port numbers instead of service names when converting old SAP logon configuration files from SAP GUI for Windows.

  Bugfixes

  • Enhanced Search:
    • It could happen that an unintended request for the result list of enhanced search could block the session for further input.
  • Table Control:
    • Exceptions occurring in special cases resulted in an unusable screen.
  • Tabstrip:
    • Switching between screens both having tabstrips could result in a blank popup menu to be shown in the navigation menu.
    • Switching between screens both having tabstrips could result in exceptions causing the screen no longer to be usable.
  • Grid Control:
    • Some exceptions have been fixed.
    • Icons on buttons disappeared after clicking on them.
    • The drop focus is no longer shown at locations where dropping is not possible.
    • The cursor is more consistent with the availability of target drop actions while dragging.
    • Incorrect drop operations outside the GUI window are now prevented.
    • The active cursor zone placement for the subtotal row expand icons has been corrected.
  • Html Control:
    • When performing a POST via a SAPEVENT, the data entered in a form was only transferred on the second attempt.
  • Tree Control:
    • The coding is now more robust in case items can not be found because of receiving incorrect ids from the back end.
    • A threading issue regarding expanding nodes has been solved.
  • TextEdit Control:
    • When changing the text via scripting, the change has not been sent back to the back end.
  • Calendar Control:
    • In some cases, there have been issues with the layout of the calendar.
  • Signature Design using a System Dependent Scheme:
    • The ABAP call requesting the current background color did not receive the correct value when a system dependent scheme was active. This resulted in a background color in the html control inconsistent with the rest of the window.
    • The background color of controls like Toolbar and Tree when located in a dock shell has been inconsistent.
    • An inconsistent color in Grid control has been fixed.
  • High Contrast Theme:
    • Issues with text and background color of cells inside a Grid control have been fixed.
  • Application Quit:
    • Quitting the application from the "File" menu could result in a hang when several windows were open.
    • OS X only: After problems with the network connection sometimes it has not been possible to quit the application.

For details please refer to the manual (chapter "6.2 Release Notes and System Requirements" and "2. Installation") of the PlatinManual and SAP note 2059424.

Please use Java 8 Update 40 or newer, because some known issues related to the Html control component have been addressed.

Connecting SAP Through Microsoft Direct Access

$

Hello All,

Now a day its trend to work remotely. And you can use multiple tools to connect your environment such as VPN, Citrix and Direct access and so on…

When you are connected to Direct access its using IPv6 and not able to translate in to IPv4. Any you will not able to connect SAP systems using SAP GUI. Scenario will be like this below.

image002.png

There is couple steps you need to take in order to allow your Microsoft direct Access work with SAP GUI. This configuration I am going to show you is going to work with any version of SAP GUI regardless.

Step 1

Enable your SAP GUI to work with IPv6 adding system environment variable as below (This has to be done on client machine)

SAP_IPv6_ACTIVE = 1

image003.png

For help: https://support.microsoft.com/en-ca/kb/310519

Step 2

Configure your SAP router to allow your direct access server to pass connection

Example of your saproutertab file

#*************************************************************************

# Direct Access allow list

#*************************************************************************

#MY SAP Application ERP

P             Direct_Access_Server_Host_Name          SAP_CI_Server_Host_Name                        36XX

P             Direct_Access_Server_Host_Name          SAP_Application_Server_Host_Name           32XX

You can add multiple direct access servers and multiple SAP Servers as per your requirements.

Note: Make Sure you restart your SAP Router after making changes to saproutertab file and use hostname only. NO IP Address

Step 3

Creating SAP GUI Connection

Without load Balancing

image004.png

SAP Router String Example : /H/SAPRouterHostName/S/sapdp99/H/

With Load Balancing

image005.png

SAP Router String Example : /H/SAPRouterHostName/S/sapdp99/H/

Note: Make sure you select appropriate load Balancing group

Now you have configured your SAP GUI to access SAP through Microsoft Direct Access

Thank you for reading

ANN: SAP GUI for Java 7.40 rev 8 early access program

$

Hello all,

In the course of preparing the upcoming shipment of the SAP GUI for Java 7.40 rev 8, we want to offer an early access version.

For the case you plan to deploy a new version of the SAP GUI for Java in the near future, we want to give you the possibility to have a look at the new version before the official shipment. With this, you can to report issues you might find which can be hopefully addressed in time before the official release.

The early access version has already been tested following our official test plans, but the tests have not been completed yet on all platforms. Therefore it should not be used for production.

There is no public download available for this prerelease, but you can request access to this early access version by creating a support incident on BC-FES-JAV with the title "SAP GUI for Java early access request". The description should contain

"Referring to the announcement of the SAP GUI for Java 7.40 rev 8 early access program on http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-73031, we are requesting access to the download URL of this version. This request should be handled by Development Support."

The time slot for this early access program is the next two weeks, the intention is to have the final version ready in early June.

Due to the incident based procedure, we have to limit the number of seats to make sure our support channels still can handle their regular work.

So the requests are handled on a first come, first serve basis, and there will be a subsequent announcement, when we will no longer take requests.

Release 7.40 rev 7.5 (May 11, 2016)

  Enhancements and New Features

  • Support for New OS Versions:
    • Ubuntu 16.04
  • Logon Langauge:
    • When specifying a language in a connection, now this parameter gets handled immediately when opening the connection instead of later as part of the logon screen. This way, also the logon screen is displayed in the requested language and setting the language also works in cases, when the logon screen is automatically skipped.

  Bugfixes

  • Enhanced Search:
    • When editing the search string and hitting return, in special cases an endless loop caused the process to hang.
  • Grid Control:
    • Grouping cells could result in wrong content to be displayed.
    • The undo of inserting a new row could cause an ABAP dump.
    • Adding a new row in an empty grid could cause an ABAP dump.
    • Icons sometimes have been displayed in adjacent cells with hidden text.
  • Html Control:
    • An issue with the encoding of POST data has been solved.
  • Desktop Integration:
    • URLs already encoded have been encoded again. This has caused displaying URLs in an external browser in those cases to fail.

Universal Clients for Accessing SAP Systems

SAP GUI is SAP's universal client for accessing SAP functionality in SAP applications such as - SAP ERP, SAP Business Suite (SAP CRM, SAP SCM and SAP PLM), SAP Business Intelligence and so on. SAP GUI functions like a browser. It gets information from the SAP server like what, where, when and how, to display contents in its window. All members of the SAP GUI family have unique attributes that make them especially suited for different user environments. SAP GUI comes in the following three different flavors:

SAP GUI for Windows
SAP GUI for Windows is an implementation especially designed for the Windows operating system, providing a Windows-like user experience and integration with other applications, based on OLE interfaces or ActiveX controls.

SAP GUI for the Java Environment

SAP GUI for the Java environment is a unified SAP frontend for multiple platforms. It is based on a platform-independent architecture and Java implementation. As a major benefit, it provides access to SAP applications that are based on Control-Enabling and therefore used to be reserved for Windows users in the past. Please, note that SAP GUI for Java is also available on Windows.

SAP GUI for HTML

SAP GUI for HTML automatically maps the screen elements in SAP transactions to HTML using HTML Business functions available within the SAP Internet Transaction Server. A web browser is sufficient to access almost all transactions. Please note: Since SAP GUI for HTML is an application running on the ITS, you find corresponding information on the ITS page.
You can find detailed information on the different SAP GUI types under the following links:

General Information
Frontend Network Requirements (SMP Login required!)
Distributed landscapes today lead to the fact that an increasing number of users connect to a central system from dispersed sites with varying degrees of available bandwidth. As a consequence, user access is through local area network (LAN) and wide area network WAN (dial-up, frame relay, Internet, etc.). This paper contains a description of SAP's frontend characteristics from both a LAN and a WAN perspective.
Please note that this paper does not discuss server-to-server traffic or printing.

SAP Screen Personas allows you to improve user productivity by personalizing your SAP Dynpro (SAP Business Suite and SAP S/4HANA) and Web Dynpro screens. You can simplify screens by removing fields you don't use, converting free text entry to pull-down menus, and automating recurring keystrokes.

By providing the right information to the right users in the right context, they can get more done in less time with greater accuracy. With more intuitive SAP screens, organizations can enhance user satisfaction, minimize training time, and spend less money on screen modifications. SAP Screen Personas is one of several ways to improve SAP usability and the overall user experience.
